Ania Perrone: Calming the Waves

May 11–27, 2018

Artist’s Reception: Friday, May 11 from 6-8pm. Ania will give a short talk about her work at about 7pm.

Open: Saturdays, May 12-26 from 1-5pm.

Ania is a self-taught artist who showed her talent and passion for the arts at a young age. While growing up on a farm in a small town in Poland, she sketched every day and her grandparents taught her skills like knitting and sewing. Today, she knits, she makes jewelry and she paints. She also teaches classes in all of these disciplines.

Ania began creating jewelry about 6 years ago. What began with a desire to create her own wedding jewelry set, led Ania to make a business of designing and selling wire wrapped jewelry. Ania later discovered her greatest creative passion when she began painting with a palette knife.

Of her process, Ania says: “When I paint, I’m taken to a different world. My mind instantly becomes at peace and I feel free. There are no boundaries. I stop thinking; creativity takes over and I’m able to envision the piece from start to finish completely undisturbed.” Her paintings are imagined within and then she searches photography and other references to help complete her vision and express the emotion she’s trying to portray.

Ania has also battled severe postpartum depression and a dangerous infection that went undiagnosed for too long. Creating has helped her to relieve anxiety. Now healthy, in addition to being an artist and business owner, Ania is a stay at home mom to 2 beautiful girls who have a little brother on the way.

We have worked with Ania through much of her journey as an artist, and consider her to be a core member of our team. We are so pleased and excited to present Ania’s work in her first ever solo exhibition, right here at swell. Please stop by and show your support!
