In the ‘70s there was a children’s tv show named Romper Room. Children were encouraged by the show’s teacher/host to send in their artwork. When I was about 5 years old I begged my Mom to send my drawing of a coffee mug and donut. It was shown live, on tv! I knew, right then and there, that I was meant to be an artist. I went on to earn a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago and was a Graphic Designer for 10 years before leaving to raise a family. With my children now older, I find myself with the time to come back to creating hand-made art. I enjoy painting in oil and acrylic and recently began needle felting. One of my favorite quotes from Pablo Picasso sums it up nicely – “All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist when he grows up.”
